Night mode lenses

Red night-mode lenses are built to cut out the specific light wavelengths that interfere with your body's sleep signals — the same artificial blue and green light your phone, laptop, and household bulbs put out after dark.

Night mode lenses target the 400–550nm range — the part of the visible spectrum most linked to melatonin suppression — filtering out significantly more of it than a standard clear or lightly-tinted lens can.

Why this matters

As covered in our pieces on blue light and circadian rhythm, artificial light at night tells your brain it's still daytime. That suppresses melatonin release, delays sleep onset, and chips away at sleep quality — even if you don't consciously notice it happening.

How clear lenses compare

Most clear "blue-light blocking" glasses on the market only filter a modest slice of blue light — often in the 30–60% range, and usually only above 420nm, missing a meaningful chunk of the range that actually affects sleep.

Red night-mode lenses use a full-spectrum tinted filter across the entire 400–550nm band, which is why they block dramatically more light than any clear lens can — the tradeoff being that they're for evening use, not daytime screen work (that's what our yellow day-mode lenses are built for).

When to wear them

After the sun goes down. Night mode lenses are meant for the hour or two before bed — while you're using your phone, laptop, or under indoor lighting in the evening. Putting them on 1–2 hours before you plan to sleep gives your body a real head start on winding down.

Built without sacrificing clarity

Good tinted lenses can feel like a tradeoff — heavy color distortion in exchange for light blocking. Our night-mode lenses are engineered to filter the target wavelengths while keeping the rest of your vision clear and natural, so you're not stuck squinting at a red-tinted world all evening.

Pair your glasses with a consistent wind-down routine — dim lighting, a silk sleep mask for the hours you're actually asleep, a lavender pillow spray as your cue to switch off — and you're covering both halves of the problem: less disruptive light reaching your eyes, and a clear signal to your body that it's time to rest.
